In October 2021, Freelance reporter Julia Duin wrote a story for *Newsweek* magazine about The Satanic Temple's lawsuit against four former members of its Washington State chapter.[1] In February 2022, The Satanic Temple sued *Newsweek* and Duin in federal court in New York State, claiming it had been libeled, which also involved TST claimingin its complaint that "The Satanic Temple" was a private figure because it was not a household name.
